Using a Proxy Server for the FastTrack for the Web Browsernetwork.gif (4954 bytes)

Updated 05/10/08

Most FastTrackers have no need of a proxy server and don't need to read this page.

What is a Proxy Server and why would I want to use one?

A proxy server is a hardware/software device that sits between your computer (or multiple computers) and the Internet. A proxy server provides shared access the Internet. Many computers can share Internet access through a single modem, ISDN connection, or cable company access device.

For more detailed information on proxy servers try www.winproxy.com . This site has a free download (try for 30-days) proxy server that is perfect for home and small office use. Also, there is a good background description of proxy servers.

If you have a proxy server use FT Comm 2 to set up parameters and access.

  • Run FT Comm 2
  • Click Use Proxy Server (a check mark will appear)
  • Click on the Proxy Settings Tab

Setting the Proxy Type and Parameters.

You will need to know the Proxy Host IP address, Proxy Port number, and the User Name and Password. There is no way that FastTrack tech Support will be able to guess or find out this information, but we will talk to your system administrators to assist them with configuration.
